Humanitarian crisis and development setbacks

It is a forgotten war — a humanitarian catastrophe tragically overlooked by mainstream media. Umbaja calls on you to stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan as they endure unimaginable hardship. We are raising funds and gathering donations to support those in urgent need: individuals caught in the crisis, local NGOs and communities on the ground, and Sudanese refugees and migrants confronting immense challenges both within Sudan and across its borders.
Sudan is in crisis. Brutal conflict, war crimes, and dictatorship have silenced millions. Yet brave activists, youth, and women are still fighting for freedom. Many have been forced into exile. In Germany, thousands of Sudanese refugees seek safety, dignity, and a chance to contribute.
Through our work, Umbaja demonstrates how migrant self-organization can unite education, solidarity, and political influence—transforming grassroots commitment into meaningful change at every level.
Umbaja is powered by commitment and sustained by solidarity, it is a fully independent, community-driven organization. We rely not on external structures, but on the unwavering commitment, dedication, and resilience of our members and supporters. Every donation we receive is used with care, purpose, and deep responsibility. Our work centers around three strategic pillars that define our mission:
1. Direct Aid for Victims of War and Displacement
A significant portion of your donation goes directly to supporting those most affected by the ongoing war in Sudan—both within the country and across its borders. We provide essential emergency aid to refugees and displaced persons in Egypt, Chad, Uganda, Ethiopia, and beyond. In the face of one of the gravest humanitarian crises of our time, we focus on immediate, life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable.
2. Strengthening Umbaja’s Institutional Capacity
To sustain and expand our impact, we invest in building a stronger and more effective organisation. This includes the digitalization of our work, the development of practical tools and platforms, and greater engagement in networks and expert forums. Strengthening our foundation ensures that we remain agile, relevant, and prepared to meet growing challenges with innovation and efficiency.
3. Shaping the Future: Advancing Democracy and Social Justice
A portion of our funds is dedicated to advocacy campaigns that champion the values of democracy and social justice. Through these efforts, we seek to strengthen our voice, expand our reach, and create lasting impact—locally in Lower Saxony, nationally throughout Germany, and globally within the Sudanese diaspora.
