AIM

Our aim is to ensure equality for refugees and migrants in Germany and to promote education, development, democracy and peacebuilding in Sudan.

This aim is achieved through our participation in local, national or international counselling centres and educational institutions for refugees, the education and training of people related to these areas, the implementation of or participation in public events on the topics of refugee policy, integration, poverty and Education, cooperation with associations and associations with comparable objectives, lectures and publications. As well as working closely with the active NGOs and institutions in the field global learning and the implementation of sustainable development projects.

NAME

Umbaja means 'a trumpet' in a local Sudanese language. We chose this name as a memorial to a Sudanese freedom fighter killed in 1899 when the Sudanese people was fighting the British colonial power, seeking freedom and independence. He was a trumpet player.

HISTORY

We are the witnesses of human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide that were committed by the dictator Omar Al Bashir in Sudan. We fought against him and, proudly, we ousted him in a great revolution.

We are the witnesses of the story of refugees in Europe and around the world.

On May 24, 2014, with other supporters, we established the Refugees Protest Camp in Hanover as a political action and movement in order to publicize about the catastrophic situation in Sudan as well as to publicize about the situation of refugees in Germany.

After more than one year, On July 28, 2015, we developed a new long-term strategy, by establishing UMBAJA e. V. as a nongovernmental organization in order to continue our constructive struggle.
